Tahmineh Javanbakht was born in Iran before the Islamic revolution and emigrated to the United States when she was sixteen.Tactile and visual memories of her birthplace remain deeply felt as evidenced in her detailed paintings and assemblages. She confronts and honors her history as many immigrants do, by paying homage to the fragments of her memories. It is a way of understanding and integrating her dual identities, a conduit to express her fascination with the intricacies of Persian art as well as her love for her childhood home. She has exhibited in galleries locally and around the world and her work has been collected by private collectors.Javanbakht is co-founder of Artecnica, a Los Angeles design firm that has been included in collections at MOMA-NY, LACMA, and theVictoria and Albert Museum in London. She has also taught experimental painting at her alma mater, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
